The most important relationship you will ever be in, is your relationship with the Lord. During the day, when work, school, and other things come up, it is easy to set time with God aside. You keep saying later. “I’ll have more time after I graduate” Or after this project, or after I get married, or after I get this job, or after I catch up on life”. However, if you want to be strong in the Lord in the future, you need to practice now. You need to be strong now. If you had a 5k coming up in 6 months, you wouldn’t keep putting off running. Do not continue to put aside your time with the Lord.
Here are some practical ways to make sure you keep God in His correct place in your life (i.e. First place!)
Read the Bible Daily
Get a plan and follow it every day. Last year I read the Bible in 90 days, and than read different book from the New Testament. Now I am reading the Bible in a year, chronologically. I am also reading a Proverb a day. There are hundreds of Bible reading plans available on the web. Some you can print out – that’s what I do! And some are delivered via email to your box every day. Others are an app for your iphone or ipad. Take advantage of what’s available and start getting into His word.
Wake with prayer, live with prayer, and sleep with prayer
As you wake up, pray for your day, the people in your life, and the courage to face the fear or struggle that will hit you when you step out of bed. Pray through the day, talk to God like the friend that He truly is, and the Father who cares for you. As you drift off to sleep each night, pray and thank the Lord for the day you had. Worship Him for who He is.
Set aside time with Him
Set aside a specific time each day to meet with Him, face to face. Without other distractions. On a busy day 15 minutes is great, or 45 minutes on a typical day. You aren’t holier just because you pray longer, but make sure you are actually busy with God honoring things.
Give each test to Him
Every time I take a CLEP, I type in all my personal information and click all the skip buttons through the instructions. Finally I arrive at the screen that says, “when you push dismiss instructions, time will begin to countdown” That’s my clue. Time to bow my head and pray to the Lord. I thank him for the chance to take this test and for the friends who are lifting me up in prayer. A special thanks for my precious family. And a dedication to Him. That he gets the Glory, whether I pass or fail… he gets all the Glory and my praise! It changes the way I face the test.
Live like a God honoring college student
Really, this is one of the most important… live like a born again Christian. And not just any Christian. A Christian in college. For some reason people expect college students to be lax about their faith, unfortunately most students are. College students all across the world leave the church and their faith while pursuing their degree. Stand against the tide and live like a God honoring college student. Share your faith, spread your faith, and guard the Gospel.
