The Revision Skills section of the College Composition CLEP makes up 40% of the complete exam. You will be tested on your awareness of your reading audience and the tone and purpose of the passage. In addition to other skills, you will need experience in writing transitions and understanding coherence between sentences and paragraphs.
This section is fairly straightforward if you can read a passage and process it. You will be reading 2-3 passages (on any topic) and then answering 7-8 questions about each passage. You will be asked questions about replacing sentences, combing sentences, or switching words. Some practice in reading good writing would help in this area.
You will need practice in reading and revising small sections of a passage, and also, an understanding of the passage as a whole. You will see questions about which sentence, added to the end, would clarify the whole paragraph.
Learn to read quickly, without getting bogged down, and learn to read for information.
Don’t worry to much about this part. Some practice and you’ve got it!
I took the College Composition CLEP in March 2011, and scored a 63. For the month of January we are focusing on the College Composition CLEP, and you are invited to join us this month as we learn about “What books to use for the College Composition CLEP” and study the different parts of this CLEP exam.
